Stop Trying to Solve Your Life:

In a world obsessed with optimization, improvement, and self-mastery, it’s easy to fall into the trap of believing that life is something to be solved.

We chase the ideal job, the perfect relationship, the flawless routine—all under the illusion that one day, we’ll have it all figured out.

But, as author Oliver Burkeman wisely reminds us:

"The day will never arrive when you finally have everything under control."

This truth is both liberating and daunting.

We crave certainty, yet certainty is an illusion.

The more we attempt to control life, the more we realize that perfection is unattainable—because life isn’t an equation, it’s a lived experience.

The Myth of the “Perfect Life”

Society encourages us to believe that if we work hard enough, plan well enough, or optimize enough, we will reach a final destination of happiness.

That moment when everything falls into place—when our finances are stable, our relationships harmonious, our minds at peace.

But as Burkeman points out, that day never truly arrives.

There is always another challenge, another unexpected twist, another question left unanswered.

Even those who seem to have their lives together are still navigating uncertainties and self-doubt.

Psychologist Carl Rogers said it best:

"The good life is a process, not a state of being. It is a direction, not a destination."

Life doesn’t have a finish line where we finally declare, “I’ve solved it!”

Instead, it’s a winding, ever-evolving path that demands that we adapt, grow, and experience—not control.

Why the Illusion of Control Makes Life Harder.

Aiming for complete control over life is exhausting.

It creates anxiety, because we become fixated on predicting and managing every possible outcome.

We tell ourselves that if we plan our lives perfectly, we can avoid pain, failure, and disappointment.

But in reality, life is unpredictable by nature.

No matter how much effort we put into control, unexpected circumstances will arise—career changes, relationships shifting, plans unraveling. Ironically, trying to control everything creates more stress, not less.

The moment we accept that uncertainty is inevitable, we begin to release ourselves from the pressure of perfection.

Instead of striving for mastery over life, we can lean into the fluidity of experience—enjoying what is, rather than obsessing over what might be.

The Freedom in Living One Day at a Time.

What if we stopped trying to “figure it all out” and instead focused on simply living today?

What if we chose to embrace uncertainty rather than fear it?

Instead of spending our energy fixing ourselves, we could focus on what makes us feel alive — learning, exploring, loving, growing.

Here’s the reality: You don’t have to know everything to live a meaningful life. You don’t have to plan perfectly to experience joy.

You don’t have to be perfect to be enough.

Each day is an opportunity, not a puzzle.

So, instead of thinking, “How do I solve my life?” perhaps the better question is:

"How can I fully experience today?"

That’s all life asks of us—one moment, one experience, one step forward at a time.

And that is more than enough.

The Journey of Becoming.

This is a truly fascinating subject because it tells the story of how we become who we are. We are the result of a journey from ‘behaviour to nature’ – a journey that begins with seemingly innocent and what may appear inconsequential actions and yet ends up creating patterns that become incredible forces of nature.
